Walking in Deep Ellum, we caught this band performing in this pseudo-bar/venue. Instantly captivated and charged. GGOOLLDD is from Milwaukee; but based in Baton Rouge. Catch them on tour if you can. Their vibe is undeniable.
With the amount of energy this band unleashed on the stage you would have never known that they were robbed of everything they had two times in the week. I spoke with the guitarist (Scott "Monty" Munro) and drummer (Mike Wallace) after the show and they were so humbled by the support of other bands and their fans. Their "go fund me" request was almost to the limit needed and they were excited they could continue the tour. I spoke to them about other bands and we got on the topic of "Protomartyr" and they were a big fan of them. Scott informed me that they had covered a Protomartyr song and Protomartyr did the same of one of Preoccupations! How cool is that guys? Hopefully those recordings get released!
Such a great show!!!!! It was the last show of the tour but you could not tell because they sounded spot on. Kamasi was such a kind soul and was really easy to talk to. I asked him what his favorite albums of 2017 were and he listed Kendrick Lamar, Tribe Called Quest, Run the Jewels and several others... I then said juuuuuuuuuust to be technical Tribe and Run the Jewels came out in 2016 at the very end.... He chuckled and said hes just been so busy with his next album. Really great guy and I hope the best for him and his family! He was so proud to be on stage with his father you could tell there is a lot of love in his band!
